Snowflakes In The Air

Winter is approaching quickly and so is Christmas, a very fun time of year with our children!  In December we will be reading: Snowmen At Christmas; Snow Happy To Be Here-snowblatt family; The Mitten; Too Many Toys;  & The Night Before Christmas.
We will also be working on a Christmas surprise for our parents! SHH...don't tell :)
Singing Christmas carols, doing crafts, decorating the tree, reading and shopping all provide great opportunities to practice good speech sounds.

October Fun!

Phonology preschool has been SUPER busy in the month of October!  We started out the month with incorporating our speech goals with counting and numeracy activities.

The week before Fall Break we read DOT THE FIRE DOG and learned about fire safety.

This week we are reading THE LITTLE OLD LADY WHO WASN'T AFRAID OF ANYTHING.  We have a game where we walk around the circle and when the music stops we tell what color and type of shoe card we land on.  At practice table we are using sticker scenes to incorporate fall vocabulary.  Miss Lorraine found a great craft activity that mixes WASHABLE tempera paint to make an orange jack-o-lantern in a Ziploc baggie.

November will be full of Thanksgiving activities!  Start asking your preschooler about things they are thankful for because we will be!!!

Thank you so much to all the parents who took the time to schedule and meet with me for our parent-teacher conference.  We are very proud of your children and how well they are doing!

Have a great week!

Letter Fun!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

We have had a great week reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.  We read the story and answered simple comprehension questions about what happened in the story.  We talked about times we had fallen and who helped us up!  In the story the letters fall out of the tree and the uppercase letters come to help the lowercase letters back up!

At circle we also sang our Handwriting Without Tears song "Mat Man."  Here is a picture of Mat Man when we are finished singing!

After circle we worked on our different letter sounds by coloring a coconut tree and stamping letters on the tree.  We also worked on recognizing our initial uppercase letters in our names.  Miss Lorraine helped the students place fall stickers on the outline of the letter.

When we were done with practice centers, we played on the floor with our ABC train.  The children had to put the train cars in ABC order and then worked on articulating objects correctly and then placing the object in the train car that had their initial sound (ex: the cookie went in the "c" car).

What a great week we had!  Thank you for sharing your children with us!  Please check out our "Shelfari" on the right.  We will keep books posted that we have used in speech therapy.

Farm Fun!

Miss Lorraine and I wrapped up August and began September with a fun farm unit!

At opening circle we read BIG RED BARN by Margarent Wise Brown.  We worked on intial and final consonants in animal names and animal sounds.

In the practice center the children used farm scene stickers to re-create the story on a piece of green paper (the great green field).

In the art center students colored a barn red and chose animal cut-outs to glue onto their barn picture.

In closing, the children played cooperatively with Little People Farm toys and in closing circle we sang, "The Farmer in the Dell."

Miss Lorraine and I enjoyed our little trip to the "farm" and are already planning for Fall with Apples, Leaves, Pumpkins, and even Alphabet practice.

Phonology preschool will meet the weeks of September 12, 19, and 26th!

Have a great week!

Fun Times in August

Phonology Preschool is in full swing!  Miss Lorraine and Miss Sarah have been busy working with all groups on speaking clearly by pronouncing all syllables in words and using beginning and ending sounds.  We have read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and Goodnight Moon.  These books are great practice books for the children as they rhyme and have a repetitive fashion to them.  Most of the children were able to "read" along with us!  What a great pre-reading skill!

Practice Center: The students worked on target words in phrases and short  sentences.
Art Center:  The children the students colored a sheet and added target words to increase vocabulary.
Water Table:  Miss Lorraine froze bear manipulatives in ice cube trays and the children melted them by squirting water on them with a baster!  What fun!
Game Center:  We played Crocodile Hop while working on words, shapes, and colors!

Looking forward to starting a farm unit next week.  Reminder that Thursday and Friday classes will not meet on 9/1 and 9/2.  Also, Monday classes will not meet on 9/5 due to Labor Day.  Tuesday classes will not meet on 9/6.

Welcome Back!

Miss Lorraine and I are very excited to be back in school and working with your children. We are anxious to hear all of the progress your children have made in their speech and language development.
This week (and possibly next week) we have planned a fun unit with "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" We will be targeting "syllableness" and having the students produce multiple syllable words and word combinations. After writing the lesson plan and gathering materials, we realized we may have enough for TWO WEEKS of therapy!
Please remember if you need to reach us, please email at sreaves@brownsburg.k12.in.us or ljeter@brownsburg.k12.in.us. You can leave a voice mail for us at (317) 852-1036, ext. 1652.
Looking forward to starting next week!
