Brownsburg Early Childhood Center

The BCSC preschool staff is very excited to be moving to our own center next fall!  The Browsnburg Early Childhood Center (ECC) will be housed at 310 N. Stadium Drive.  If you have lived in Brownsburg a few years you will recognize this building as the former Brownsburg Recreation Center...and before that Lincoln Elementary.

We are excited to announce that preschool registration for our community preschool programs (2, 3, and 5 day--half days) is OPEN.  Parents can go to the BCSC home page (http://www.brownsburg.k12.in.us/) and the link is right there.  If you have sent in a paper copy of the application and $100 deposit to hold your spot, you will still need to complete the official registration on line.  Tuition information is available on the website.  The ECC will follow the Brownsburg school calendar.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Have a great week!

We Love February

Just a reminder that Thursday, February 21 classes will NOT meet for Phonology.  This is correct with the sheet given to you at the beginning of the year (or your initial conference).  However, the Friday, February 22 8:15 AM WILL MEET (due to 2 meetings being weather cancellations).  Now, of course the weather channels are predicting ice and snow mix on Friday morning.  So let's keep our fingers crossed that we do not need to delay and therefore cancel yet again!

On that note, I am ready for SPRING!  Ms. Lorraine has been busy planning some fun activities for March.  Can't wait to see what "springs up!"

On Monday, February 25 a graduate student from Purdue University will be starting with us.  Stacy Leland is working on her Master's degree in Speech Pathology and will be working with Ms. Lorraine and I until May 10.  She will send out an introductory letter later in the week.  We are looking forward to having Ms. Stacy with us!  Ms. Stacy's externship with us is one of her last experiences before graduating from Purdue with her Master Degree.

February has been such a fun month!  Dental Health month, Valentine's day, and new letters S, T and U!  Just a reminder that we have a link for Zoo Phonics on the left of the blog!

Looking ahead--just a reminder that BCSC will be on Spring Break March Monday, March 25 through Friday, April 5.  Classes will resume on Monday, April 8, 2013!

Have a wonderful week!

January Fun!

This month has been crazy with the weather!  It's like Mother Nature can't figure out if she wants a warm January or a cold one!  But, nonetheless, the students have been enjoying a "Polar" January!

We've created a floating iceberg island for some arctic animals in our sensory table!

The students have read Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? by Eric Carle.  We worked on articulation of our target sounds in the animal names.

We worked on using our speech and language in cooperative play with the Mega Blocks.

Our Zoo Phonics letters this month have been P, Q, and R.  Students have been using their targetted speech sounds to answer "what doing" questions and in social skill/cooperative play lessons.

The Brownsburg Community Preschool program has adopted HighScope as a curriculum and structure for our 2, 3, and 4 day classes, while the whole curriculum and structure won't fit in or work with a 1-hour phonology preschool class, Ms. Lorraine and I have used part of the structure during our circle.  The students will get to "read" our Morning/Afternoon message at circle to help them know what we have planned for the day.  Here is an example of Morning Message:

It is still winter and weather certainly is a little "bipolar" here in Indiana!  If Brownsburg Schools calls a 2-hour delay morning classes will NOT meet, but afternoon (1:15 and later) classes will meet at their normal time.  I will try to either post a message on the blog and/or send out an email if those days occur.  The "alternative" preschool schedule that is posted on delay notices refers to our 2, 3, and 4 day classes.

Upcoming reminders:  We will NOT be meeting the week of President's Day in February (February 18-February 22).  Brownsburg Schools will be closed for TWO weeks for Spring Break (March 25-April 5), so we will not be meeting those weeks.

Stacey Leland, a graduate student working on her Master's degree in speech-language pathology will begin a 9 week externship with us February 25, 2013.  She will be here through May 10, 2013.  Ms. Stacey is looking forward to working with our preschool staff and students.  She will send a letter home with the students introducing herself after she arrives.

Have a wonderful weekend.  Enjoy the 60 degree day today and bundle up for the 21 degree night for tomorrow night...crazy Indiana weather.

November News

Miss Lorraine and I cannot believe how quickly November went and that tomorrow will be December 1st!  WOW!  This school year is just flying by!

We have certainly kept busy in Phonology Preschool the past few weeks.

Our Zoo Phonics letter-learning has taken us through letter "L" this week.  While "L" is not usually developed in children's speech until about age 5 1/2 or 6, we will continue to introduce a letter of the week but still address each child's individual articulation needs.  In December we will cover "M," "N," and "O."

Our November vocabulary words included "corn," "family," "turkey," "Pilgrim," "pumpkin," "feast," "Mayflower," "horn of plenty" or "cornucopia," and "Native American."  The children made a group poster that we displayed in our classroom.

Thank you again for sharing your children with us each week.  Have a wonderful and unseasonably warm weekend!

Best Wishes,

Ms. Sarah
